Bactroban is a local antibacterial agent, often prescribed by adults for purulent rhinitis and skin infection. But is it possible to treat children with such a drug and how to do it correctly?
Baktroban is produced in two versions:
- Ointment intended for external processing. It is represented by a white homogeneous substance. This form is sold in a tube, inside which contains 5 or 15 g of the drug.
- Nasal ointment. This is also a homogeneous mass of white. It is sold in a tube weighing 3 grams.
Composition
In both cases, the ointment Baktroban active ingredient is mupirocin, presented in a concentration of 2%, but the auxiliary ingredients are different.
In a nasal ointment, a paraffin base is used, to which softizan 649 is added. Bactroban for external use includes two types of polyethylene glycol (macrogol 400 and 3350).
Operating principle
The main component of any form of Baktroban is an antibiotic obtained from bacteria of the “fluorescent pseudomonad” type. This substance blocks protein synthesis in microbial cells, as a result of which they cease to multiply and die.

- Epidermal staphylococcus.
