"Suprastinex" is one of the modern drugs from the group of antihistamines. This medicine is used by both adults and young patients to eliminate the symptoms of allergies or prevent them from developing.

Release form

In pharmacies, you can find two dosage forms of "Suprastex".

  • Drops. This version of the medication is represented by glass vials that have a dropper. Inside one bottle there is 20 ml of almost colorless liquid without any inclusions. She has a sweet taste and an indescribable smell of vinegar.
  • Pills. They are sold in blisters of 7 or 10 pieces, and one pack contains from 7 to 30 tablets. Such “Suprastinex” has a white shell, which has no odor, and the shape of the tablet is convex and round. Composition

The active ingredient in both forms of the drug is called levocetirizine. It is located in “Suprastratex” in the form of dihydrochloride. Its dosage in 1 ml of drops is 5 mg. The same amount of active substance is in one tablet. Since one milliliter of solution contains 20 drops, the amount of levocetirizine in 1 drop corresponds to 0.25 mg.

Additionally, there is propylene glycol, acetic acid, glycerin and some other components in the liquid preparation. Cellulose, lactose, hypromellose, and other compounds are present in the inactive substances of the tableted Suprastrax. Operating principle

How old is allowed?

The use of liquid Suprastinex is possible in children over 2 years old. If treatment is necessary for babies up to the age of two, the drops should be replaced with an analogue approved for such patients. The tablet form of the drug is prescribed to children older than six years, since such a medicine has a shell and it is impossible to divide the Suprastex tablet into parts.

Contraindications

Treatment with both forms of the drug is prohibited in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the tablets or solution. In addition, "Suprastinex" can not be used for renal failure, if it is in the terminal stage.

Overdose

If a small patient accidentally receives a large dose of the drug, it can cause a restless and nervous state, which will be replaced by drowsiness.

If the situation is detected immediately after an overdose, you should do a gastric lavage or give the baby a sorbent. With a deteriorated general condition of the child, a medical examination is required for symptomatic treatment.

Interaction with other drugs

“Suprastinex” is not recommended to be used together with drugs that can inhibit the central nervous system. According to the manufacturer, this medication is compatible with ketoconazole, azithromycin, cimetidine, diazepam, erythromycin and phenazone. Effects on other medications have not been studied.

Storage conditions

Almost all of them are represented by tablets with a dosage of 5 mg. Only "Xizal" is also available in the form of drops, so it can replace "Suprastinex", if the child is from two to six years old. This drug is stored after opening a little longer (up to 3 months), but it also costs a little more expensive (about 400 rubles per 10 ml).

      Another antihistamine, for example, Zyrtec, may also become a replacement for Suprastratex. Such drops act due to cetirizine and can be used even in infants, for example, at 8 months. Another popular analogue can be called "Erius". This syrup contains desloratadine and is prescribed to children older than a year.

      If the child is already 2 years old, “Suprastenex” can be replaced with syrup “Claritin, Whose active ingredient is loratadine.
