Kameton for children: instructions for use

When children have sore throats, local remedies are always in demand with which rinsing or irrigation of the affected area is performed. One of these drugs is Kameton. This multicomponent medicine is often used by adults as an antiseptic for various diseases of ENT organs. Is it allowed in childhood and how to sprinkle it to the child in the throat correctly?

Kameton is a liquid smelling of eucalyptus, placed in cans of different volume. The drug is available in two forms - spray and aerosol. Depending on the manufacturer, one cylinder can contain from 15 to 45 grams of such an oily medicine that has a bitter taste.

The therapeutic effect of the drug is provided by such active ingredients:

• Chlorobutanol in the form of hemihydrate;
• Camphor;
• Levomenthol or racenthol;
• Eucalyptus oil.

Each of these substances is presented in one container depending on the total volume of the preparation in the amount of 0.1 g, 0.2 g or 0.3 g. Additionally, the medicine in the aerosol includes propellant and isopropyl myristate, and Kameton spray contains water, emulsifier, Polysorbate 80 and vaseline oil.

Kameton helps in the treatment of diseases of the throat due to the properties of its components:

• Camphor have the ability to reduce nasal pharynx and facilitate breathing. Under the action of this substance, mucus in the respiratory tract is diluted and easier to separate, and the blood flow in the place of treatment increases.
• Eucalyptus oil able to destroy various harmful microorganisms, so under its influence the infectious inflammatory process quickly subsides. This component of the drug also stimulates the receptors on the mucous membrane, has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory activity.
• Chlorbutanol interferes with reproduction of pathogenic microbes and fungi, and also has anti-inflammatory and small anesthetic effect.
• Menthol reduces pain when swallowing and helps get rid of tickling. This ingredient has a local irritating effect, which results in a feeling of cold. In addition, it has some antiseptic effect.

Kameton apply:

• When rhinitis;
• Pharyngitis;
• With tonsillitis;
• With laryngitis.

Most often, the medication is prescribed in the first days of the disease and, if it does not improve the condition of the child, it can be replaced with other medicines.

Use of Kameton is allowed from 5 years of age. In this case, children 5–7 years old are more likely to choose an aerosol, since the drug particles from this form are better distributed in the nasopharynx. When you click on the dispenser of this medication, a small cloud of the smallest drops of the drug is formed. They evenly settle on the mucous membrane, and overdose during treatment with aerosol is practically excluded.

Kameton in the spray is often prescribed to children over 7 years old. By pressing the nozzle of the can of such a means, receive a stream of medication that allows you to point the affected area. In addition, schoolchildren do not have difficulties with a wide opening of the mouth and holding their breath during the procedure. In addition, the concentration of active ingredients in the spray is usually higher.

The drug is not used in children with intolerance to any ingredient Kameton. Other contraindications to treatment with this local remedy are not noted by the manufacturer.

The instructions mention that treatment with Kametone may cause an allergic rash. In addition, there may be a slight tingling or burning sensation at the point of entry of the drug particles.

The tool is prescribed both in the nose and for the treatment of the throat. Before the procedure, the nasal passages should be cleaned of mucus. Further, the use of different forms of medication is different:

• To handle the nasopharynx with an aerosol, a protective cap should be removed from the balloon and the spray nozzle should be inserted shallowly into one nostril (approximately half a centimeter). After asking the small patient to inhale, simultaneously press the dispenser. Then the procedure is repeated for the second nasal passage. Next, the drug is sprayed into the oral cavity.
• Kameton in the form of a spray has 2 different nozzles. One of them is a vertical dispenser, which is used in the order described above (as an aerosol).
• The second option is an elongated movable tube. Wearing such a dispenser on the cartridge, the tube should be installed vertically and inserted approximately 0.5 cm into the nasal passage, after which it should be injected and repeated for the second nostril. To treat the throat, such a tube is turned at a 90 degree angle to the balloon. Then it is introduced deep into the mouth and sent to the tonsils and pharynx.

The frequency of using a spray or aerosol is 3 or 4 times a day. How long to process the nasopharynx and throat is determined by the doctor, but usually the course of treatment lasts 3-10 days. The number of injections depends on age:

• A 5–12 year old child is given one inhalation to each nostril, and 1 or 2 injections are used to treat the throat.
• Children 12-15 years old spray injected one click in the nose (each turn) and twice splash into the throat.
• Adolescents over 15 years of age can increase dosage to 2 injections in each nostril and 3 presses when treating the throat.

Excess doses of Kameton can cause nausea, stomach pain, or an attack of vomiting. This happens if you use the medicine more often than prescribed by the doctor. Also, an overdose is possible if the child swallows the medicine while handling the throat. In such situations, you need to show the little patient to the pediatrician.

Since Kameton's ingredients are not absorbed and have no systemic effect, the medicine is allowed to be used with any other drugs.

The drug is sold in pharmacies without a prescription. The average price of 30 g of Kameton aerosol is 50-60 rubles, and the same amount of medicine in the form of a spray is about 80 rubles.

For storing medication in the form of an aerosol or in the form of a spray, it is recommended to choose a place protected from the sun's rays. The drug must be inaccessible to a small child. The optimal temperature for its storage is the range from +3 to +25 degrees. Kameton's shelf life, depending on the manufacturer and the form, is 2, 3 or 4 years. If it has expired, the balloon must be thrown away, but it is unacceptable to pierce or break the packaging from under the aerosol.

On the use of Kameton in children there are many good reviews. The drug is praised for its effective action in pharyngitis, sore throat and other diseases that cause sore throat. According to parents, the drug in most cases has no harmful side effects, because its ingredients are practically not absorbed, but only affect locally. A plus means and call it a low price.As for the drawbacks, they often complain about the unpleasant taste that most young patients do not like.

Instead of Kameton, drugs with similar therapeutic effects can be used, for example:

• Ingalipt. Such a multicomponent spray containing streptocid, eucalyptus and mint oil is prescribed to children over 3 years old.
• Hexoral. This spray or solution is not suitable for children under 3 years. Its main ingredient is antiseptic hexatidine.
• Lugol. Spray with the same name containing iodine, used from 5 years.
• Yoks. Such a drug based on povidone-iodine and allantoin is used in children over 8 years of age.
• Miramistin. This antiseptic is prescribed to children older than three years. It is produced in solution and spray.
