Berodual for children

In the treatment of pathologies of the respiratory tract are often used bronchodilators. One of the drugs in this group is Berodual. Is it possible to prescribe it to children, when it is justified and how to properly treat a child with this remedy?

In the pharmacy network, you can purchase two versions of the drug:

1. Berodual in the form of a solution. It is a clear liquid without any suspension and pronounced odor. One package of this medication is represented by a bottle with 20 ml of solution, equipped with a dropper.
2. Berodual H in aerosol. This is a pocket spray, equipped with a mouthpiece. Inside one pack with a capacity of 10 ml is 200 doses.

Berodual contains two active components:

1. Fenoterol hydrobromide. It contains 500 μg in 1 ml of solution, and 50 μg in one dose of aerosol.
2. Ipratropium bromide. Its dosage in the solution for inhalation is 250 μg per 1 ml, and in an aerosol - 20 μg per dose of the drug.

Benzalkonium chloride, hydrochloric acid, sodium chloride, purified water and edetate di sodium are auxiliary compounds in the solution used for the inhalation administration of Berodual using a nebulizer. In addition to the active ingredients, the pocket can contains distilled water and ethyl alcohol, as well as tetrafluoroethane and citric acid.

The active components of Berodual have bronchodilator activity. The drug is a combination of beta-2-adrenergic and m-holinoblokatora. Their action is mutually enhanced and manifests itself in the antispasmodic effect that the drug causes in the smooth muscles of the bronchi.

Already 15 minutes after the use of Berodual, bronchospasm is eliminated, and lung function is improved.. The maximum therapeutic effect of the drug is observed 1-2 hours after inhalation of an aerosol or inhalation. The duration of the effect can be up to 6 hours.

In this case, the drug does not impair the production of mucus in the bronchi, and does not have a negative effect on the process of gas exchange in the lungs. The reason for using Berodual in childhood can be:

• Symptomatic relief in reversible bronchospasm, for example, caused by bronchial asthma or chronic bronchitis with obstruction.
• Prevention of bronchospasm in chronic lung diseases.
• Preparation of the lungs for the subsequent administration of other medicines, such as antibiotics, mucolytics (Lasolvan, Ambrobene) or corticosteroids.

According to the annotation to the drug, inhalations with Berodual are not recommended for patients under the age of 6 years without prior consultation with the doctor. At the age of six years, the drug is administered only under the supervision of physicians, and the dosage is calculated by the weight of the child.

Treatment with Berodual is not prescribed or used with great care:

• If hypersensitivity to any of its components is detected. In such a situation, Berodual is dangerous by an immediate allergic reaction.
• If the patient has heart disease and heart rhythm disturbances.
• If the child has diabetes, hyperthyroidism or pheochromocytoma.

Also, contraindications to inhalation are fever, bacterial damage to the ear and nasopharynx (rhinitis, pharyngitis) and an acute period of pneumonia. You should not breathe Berodual when tracheitis and tendency to bleeding from the nose.

The body of the child may respond to the use of Berodual:

• Tremor of the limbs.

• A very serious condition needs to increase the dose to 3-4 ml of the drug (60-80 drops). The maximum amount of liquid Berodual that a child can receive per day is 4 ml (under the age of 12 years) or 8 ml (over the age of 12 years).

To dilute the drug can only be used saline. Distilled water is not suitable for this purpose. In addition, Berodual should be diluted right before the procedure, since the medicine mixed with saline cannot be stored.

During an attack, a child of 6 years is recommended to inhale 2 doses of such Berodual. With the ineffectiveness of the drug after 5 minutes, repeated inhalation of two more doses is allowed. If such a double application does not ease breathing, you should immediately call an ambulance.

If treatment with an aerosol form of Berodual is prescribed for a long period, then the medication is prescribed in 1 or 2 doses per application. Inhalation of this amount of aerosol, depending on the reason for the therapy, is needed 3-8 times a day.

Before the first use, you need to shake the can, and then press it on the bottom 2 times. Next, before each use, remove the cap from the cartridge and suggest that the child take a deep breath (slowly), and then clasp the tip of the cartridge with his lips.

During inhalation, they quickly press on the bottom, as a result of which 1 dose will fall into the airways of the child. Repeated inhalation of another 1 dose occurs in the same way, after which the can is closed with a protective cap.

If the drug is not used for more than three days, before inhaling Berodual, you need to press the bottom of the can so that the spray forms an aerosol cloud in the air. • Lasolvan. Such a drug is a group of mucolytics, so it is claimed for dry cough, in which the sputum is very viscous.
