"Fliksotid" for children: instructions for use and dosage for inhalation

Content

If a child has been diagnosed with bronchial asthma, the doctor may prescribe inhalations with a hormonal medication, for example, Fliksotid. How does this medication affect the respiratory tract and what side effects can it cause? At what age is it prescribed for children and in what doses is it used?

Release form and composition

"Fliksotid" produced in the form of a metered aerosol used for inhalation. The drug is sold in aluminum inhalers, which have a dosing device. Inside the cartridge there is a white suspension, the main component of which is micronized fluticasone propionate.

Depending on the amount of fluticasone in one dose, three different “Fliksotid” aerosols are released - 50 µg each, 125 µg each and 250 µg each. One bottle can contain 60 or 120 doses. In addition to the active substance, tetrafluoroethane is also present in the aerosol (it is a non-toxic gas). There is also the drug "Fliksotid Nebula", represented by a suspension for inhalation, but in Russia it is not registered.

Operating principle

The drug is a glucocorticoid hormone, which, when inhaled, acts topically, reducing the appearance of inflammation and allergic reactions. Thanks to the use of Fliksotid, the severity of symptoms is reduced, and exacerbations of diseases in which airway obstruction occurs, occur much less frequently.

Under the action of fluticasone, the production of active substances, which are involved in allergic reactions and support the inflammatory process, such as prostaglandins and histamine, is reduced. In addition, the drug affects the reproduction of macrophages, lymphocytes, neutrophils and other cells.

If the medicine is used in recommended doses, then its effect on the hypothalamus and adrenal glands is minimal.

The therapeutic effect after inhalation of "Fliksotid" develops within a day, and after one or two weeks of use becomes maximum.

When the medicine is canceled, its effect continues for several days.

Indications

The drug is prescribed as a basic treatment of bronchial asthma, especially with prolonged and frequent attacks. With this disease, "Fliksotid" can be used in patients older than 1 year. It is prescribed for prophylactic purposes, that is, the aerosol is used even in the absence of seizures. In adults, it is also used in obstructive pulmonary diseases, supplementing with bronchodilators.

Contraindications

"Fliksotid" banned for use in children with:

  1. hypersensitivity to fluticasone or tetrafluoroethane;
  2. asthmatic status (first it should be removed by other means);
  3. acute bronchospasm.

If a patient has glaucoma, cirrhosis of the liver, pulmonary tuberculosis, hypothyroidism, or any infections, inhalation with Fliksotid should be done only under the supervision of a physician.

Side effects

During treatment with Flixotide, the appearance of such negative reactions is possible:

  • hoarseness (it is recommended to get rid of it by rinsing with water after inhalation);
  • candidal stomatitis or Candida throat lesions (in this situation, local antifungal agents are prescribed);
  • skin allergies or angioedema (in very rare cases, anaphylaxis);
  • behavioral disorders in the form of increased activity, anxiety or irritability;
  • increased dyspnea after the procedure (this action is called paradoxical bronchospasm);
  • sleep disorders;
  • bruising;
  • increase blood glucose levels;
  • systemic effects arising from adverse effects on the adrenal glands.

Instructions for use

The drug is used exclusively for inhalations that are done by mouth.

For the youngest patients, an auxiliary device called a spacer, which has a facial mask, is required.

In children, an aerosol is usually used, containing 50 µg of the active ingredient in each dose. In most cases, 50 or 100 micrograms of flixotide per inhalation is enough to control asthma in a child. In this dosage, the drug is used twice a day.

If required, a single dose can be increased to 200 μg. As a rule, babies 1-4 years old are prescribed inhalations of 100 µg, since they have more intense breathing through the nose, and the lumen of the bronchi is narrow, resulting in less active substance in the respiratory tract.

The duration of treatment with Flixotide is usually 3-6 months. At the beginning of therapy, many patients are prescribed a higher dosage, and after the onset of therapeutic action, it is reduced to the minimum dose that will be effective for a particular patient. Drug withdrawal should be gradual.

Overdose and drug interactions

If the dose of “Fliksotid” is significantly exceeded, adrenal gland function depression is possible, but it will be temporary and does not require emergency treatment (the work of the adrenal cortex will recover in a few days). Chronic overdose, when the drug is given to a child in a higher dose, is more dangerous. With it, adrenal function can be greatly suppressed, which leads to growth retardation and other negative symptoms.

With regard to the interaction of drugs with other drugs, thanks to inhalation and local effect, Flixotide can be combined with any other means. The manufacturer does not mention the incompatibility of the aerosol with any drugs.

Terms of sale and storage

To buy "Fliksotida" in a pharmacy need a prescription from a doctor. The average price of one vial of the drug containing 50 µg of the active ingredient in a single dose is 550-650 rubles. The shelf life of such a drug is 2 years.

While it has not expired, the balloon should be stored at a temperature of up to +30 degrees away from sunlight, but not cooled (this reduces the therapeutic effect). It must also be inaccessible to a small child.

Reviews

In most cases, the use of drugs in children respond positively. An inhaler is said to be effective in preventing asthma attacks. According to parents, the therapeutic effect of “Fliksotid” begins to manifest itself not immediately, but after several days of therapy. The disadvantages of medication include the need for long-term use and high cost.

Analogs

There are other preparations of fluticasone, but they cannot replace “Fliksotid”, as they are represented by nasal spray (“Nazarel”, “Fliksonaze”) prescribed for allergic rhinitis, as well as cream and ointment (“Kutivate”), which are used for skin allergic reactions . If you want to choose an analogue "Flixotide" for child with asthmaThe doctor may prescribe:
