Chairs for a desk student
Chairs for the student's desk require much more attention to the choice than can be assumed at first glance, because they should not only guarantee convenience, but also help to form the correct posture in the child. It is not for nothing that so many different models of chairs are offered on the modern market - each of them is ideal for any of the consumers, but the difficulty of the task lies in finding the optimal solution for your children.
Main requirements
Each manufacturer is guaranteed to maximally praise their models, and it is possible that he is telling the truth, but we are looking for the right chair, not a priori, but specifically for a particular child. That is why by no means do not blindly rely on the recommendations of other people, even if there is an absolute certainty that the counselor sincerely wishes to help. Before choosing a chair or armchair for the home, the child must test it, and if you plan to make a purchase via the Internet, do not be lazy to find the same model in the store - just to try the product in practice before you pay money.
The kid must personally confirm that he is comfortable, and he will be able to sit on such a seat for several hours in a row.
Nevertheless, relying on his words alone is also not worth it, because it is not a fact that he is sitting correctly, while parents certainly want to take care of the correctness of the child’s posture. For this reason, pay attention to your child sitting on a stool intended as an ideal option, namely, the following criteria:
- Foot should completely touch the floor or the special footboard provided in models for the smallest. When focusing solely on the back of the thigh, the correct posture cannot be formed, and reaching the floor with the tips of the socks will not give sufficient support.
- When a child is sitting and fully resting his foot on the floor or footboard, his knees should be bent at right angles. Naturally, the angle may differ slightly from 90 degrees, but if the difference is noticeable, and the design of the chair does not allow you to properly adjust the height of the seat, you can safely discard this model.
- Ideally, the chair should be bought with strict reference to the table, because the arms bent at the elbows laid on the table should also be right angle.
Kinds
There are at least five types of chairs that can be used with a desk. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages:
- The writing chair is extremely simple - it is an ordinary chair with a back. Due to its simplicity, it costs a penny, however you need to choose it as carefully as possible because the position of individual parts here is not regulated in principle. For the same reason, be prepared to repeatedly change such furniture as the child grows.
- Growing chair allows you to adjust at least the height of the seat, and even the location of the back and the degree of its inclination. Its price is quite high, but this is a universal solution for many years to come. Be careful - the instructions indicate what is the minimum and maximum height for this model, so choose chairs with a margin. Since such furniture is usually designed for children, an older teenager may have to buy something else.
- Orthopedic chairs are developed in close contact with doctors, therefore, are considered to be the most useful for the back. They are distinguished by the curved shape of the back, an almost mandatory foot rest and the ability to adjust all parameters down to the smallest values.
- Computer chair - This is a combination of the best qualities of orthopedic and growing chairs, but such furniture is more designed for adults, so it is not recommended as a gift to preschoolers, and often to younger schoolchildren.
- Ergonomic chairs They are the newest version, the main point of which is to repeat the outlines of the human body as accurately as possible for one hundred percent convenience. Most often, they are equipped with a slightly inclined back, whereas the main load for keeping the body weight falls on the knees, protected, in turn, with a special emphasis.
Good Choice Rules
We have already spoken about the influence of child growth on the choice of highchair, but the list of important selection criteria is not limited to this. Here's what else needs to be noted without fail:
- Sitting, the child should firmly rest against the floor and the back of the chairtherefore, the seat should be relatively small - no more than 70% of the length of the thigh in depth. The distance from the end of the seat to the popliteal fold is within 5-8 cm, the end of the seat should be rounded off.
- The optimum height of the back - to the bottom of the blades, but as the child grows, it is better that its height allows adjustment. Mounting the backrest to the body should be reliable, especially in the lower part, avoiding even minimal loosening.
- For young children with a look at the growth, you can take quite high chairs, but in this case they are sure should be equipped with a removable footrest.
- For a chair, a very important criterion is sustainability especially in the case of children who love to sway. If you have classic legs or a rack, you should not worry about it, but if the product is on wheels, there should be at least five of them.
Do I need armrests?
At first glance, the armrests provide increased comfort of sitting on a chair, however, most of the models of such furniture are not equipped with them. This is because even experts cannot say for sure whether the armrests are beneficial or, rather, harmful. Since the schoolchildren’s posture has not yet been developed, not only seeming comfort, but also health benefits are extremely important for him, so choosing a model with or without armrests depends greatly on which type of activity will be basic for a sitting child.
Most classic children's chairs do not provide armrests for the reason that they are designed primarily to perform classic homework.
During this activity, the child usually rests his elbows on the tabletop, respectively, the armrests are completely superfluous addition. The opposite situation develops if the child, sitting on a chair, will mostly read or watch video footage. In this case, the armrests will be an additional emphasis that keeps the back from tilting, including - to the right or left. Armrests are critical for computer work, because without them, the hands, constantly stretched forward, will not find sufficient support in the keyboard, so they will constantly pull the kid forward, deforming his back.
How to choose upholstery?
You should not forget about aesthetics too - the chair should remain beautiful and harmoniously fit into the interior of the room. Of great importance is also the strength and the ability to clean, because children do not particularly care about the cleanliness and safety of what they sit on. In this context, armchair models with removable covers seem very attractive, because the removable cover is worn as easily as any other textile accessory.
In addition, the possibility of replacing the cover makes it possible not to change the chair in a situation when the cover is hopelessly flawed or when the child’s tastes or the overall design of the room have changed so much over the years that the old look of the chair no longer fits.
If we talk about specific materials, then most often choose eco-leather and different types of textiles. The first option is good for its presentability, it is also very resistant to most contaminants and allows cleaning without much effort. Nevertheless, the similarity with the skin is only visual here, so the durability of the product is much lower.
The operational capabilities of textile cases are on average even lower, but such a solution impresses with its low price - if absolutely necessary, the case can simply be changed. Experts advise to acquire bright, variegated textile covers, because on their surface any damage, be it stains or loose threads, is not so strongly striking.
Some more tricks
Finally - a few touches that will allow you to become a real expert in the field of choice of chairs for schoolchildren. Subtleties that almost no one pays attention to - for you:
- It is believed that the legs, pushed under the chair, are not too conducive to the formation of correct posture, so give preference to those models that by their design Do not allow this possibility.
- A strong, but loose chair over the years can be distorted sufficiently so that its entire orthopedic effect is leveled. In the store, you are unlikely to be allowed to jump on a chair to check its loosening resistance therefore, pay special attention to whether the base of the chair itself creaks when the child sits and tosses on it.
- Height adjustable chairs, which today are the majority, are popular with consumers for ability to react quickly to increasing growth child, but not all models of the adjustment procedure is quite simple. Some orthopedic chairs do not assume that their owners will regulate themselves.
Although a relatively strict design that promotes concentration is usually recommended for the working area, it is better for the child to buy a chair with a relatively bright color - so studying will less seem like a dull routine.
