Thuja oil for children and its use in adenoiditis
Adenoids in children is a fairly common and long-lasting disease that prevents a child from leading a normal life by restricting nasal breathing. Sometimes treatment is possible only with surgery, but parents usually do not rush to lead the child under the scalpel, trying numerous means of traditional medicine and homeopathy. One of these funds is thuja oil. That it represents and how to use it for kids, we will tell in this material.
Composition and useful properties
Homeopathic thuja oil is extracted from cones of the same name plant, which belongs to the family of evergreen cypress. The ancient Greeks gave him this name for vitality and resistance to external conditions, “thuja” in translation means - “tree of life”. It should be noted that the oil extracted from the cones of this plant is super-toxic. This is a pure, concentrated essential oil. In the wrong dosages, it may well kill a person.
Naturally, it is not recommended to use it in the treatment of children's ailments (and adults too) at home. But homeopathy, true to its principles, has created a remedy in which, as such, the toxic substance contains very little, and therefore it can be considered safe.
Essential oil is extracted by steam distillation. It is possible to extract oil from the cones of these cypress plants in other ways, but it will definitely be incredibly toxic and dangerous. In pharmacology, oil intended for human use undergoes additional purification from toxins. At the same time, the useful properties of the product are slightly lost, but safety increases.
The benefits of thuja oil, according to the manufacturers, are quite impressive. So, it is believed that it:
- eliminates manifestations of allergic reactions, facilitates the course of allergies, including allergic rhinitis, bronchitis;
- is the prevention of cancer;
- helps with rheumatism;
- normalizes hormones;
- dilutes sputum in the bronchi and contributes to its removal;
- boosts immunity;
- dilates blood vessels;
- has a positive effect on the digestive processes;
- possesses anti-inflammatory action, kills pathogenic microbes.
It is also believed that thuja oil is able to increase male power (potency), normalize the female menstrual cycle, but this information has no relation to children's use.
The composition of thuja oil is quite simple. It includes natural flavonoids, resins and tannins. The main active ingredient is thuja occidentalis (do not worry, this is the typical homeopathic name of the substance invented by homeopaths). It also contains the glycoside aromadendrin, pinin (if simply, pine resin), ipidacrine, sawn.
The line of homeopathic remedies on the basis of thuja is very extensive: there are drops in the nose with a cold, sinus, there is an ointment, homeopathic granules. Actually, the oil is available in several forms - oil “Tuya 100%”, oil “Tuya DN”, “Tuya GF”, “Edas 801”.
It should be understood that all these drugs are not considered medicinal.
Benefits of adenoiditis
Adenoiditis is a pathological proliferation of tonsils. They consist of lymphoid tissue, which begins to increase in response to the penetration of pathogenic bacteria and viruses.After the disease, the lymphoid tissue assumes its former size, but sometimes (especially in frequently ill children), the growth continues even outside the disease itself. Thus, the tonsils, designed to protect a person from anything alien that can penetrate through the mouth or nose (viral particles, microbes), themselves become the cause of the disease.
The enlarged tonsils begin to hinder normal nasal breathing, the baby begins to breathe more often with the help of an open mouth, and therefore respiratory diseases occur more often, and the circle is closed. In severe cases with adenoids in children, facial expressions change, there is drooling, constant nasal congestion, the voice becomes nasal, the child is dispersed, he has difficulty in communication and learning.
The third and fourth degrees of adenoiditis should be treated surgically - the enlarged amygdala is completely or partially excised. So says traditional medicine. Parents always want less radical treatment for their children, and therefore some people do not give consent to the operation for a long time, trying to cure the child conservatively. 1-2 degrees of adenoiditis can be treated with conservative means.
Producers of homemade thuja oil are sure that their product will definitely help. They promise that the tonsils will begin to shrink, as cypress oil has a vascular action. This is a natural antiseptic, which also has antibacterial activity, and therefore may well act as an anti-inflammatory drug.
Producers of thuja oil in pediatric adenoids recommend a remedy for enhancing local immunity and for activating and establishing fine cellular metabolic processes in the region of the oropharynx and nasopharynx.
It should be noted that for the treatment of adenoids in children of the above release forms for the treatment of adenoiditis, only two are recommended - Edas 801 and Tuya DN.
Indications and contraindications
As indications for use manufacturers indicate diseases of the respiratory and hearing organs. Instructions attached to the tool, says that it can be used in the treatment of:
- otitis media;
- sinusitis;
- tonsillitis (including chronic);
- pharyngitis;
- sinusitis;
- adenoiditis.
As contraindications indicated only individual intolerance to certain components in the composition of the tool. Most drugs that are among the drugs, such a small list of contraindications can not boast. But parents should not be enthusiastic about this. Experts in the field of medicine and pharmacology argue that usually with funds with a small number of contraindications and the effect is small or absent altogether.
In practice, the homeopathic medicine is not recommended for use in the period of acute illness - at high temperature.
How old is it?
Thuja Concentrated Essential Oil is not used in the treatment of children. If we talk about the fifteen percent homeopathic remedy "Edas801", then it has no age limit, it can be used for children of any age. "Tui Nam" in practice is used for children older than one year, but manufacturers do not specify age restrictions in the instructions. The remaining oils of thuja are permissible only after 18 years.
It should be noted that the issue of compliance of the drug to a specific age must be checked with the doctor.
Instructions for use
Parents who decide to treat adenoiditis in a child with oil of thuja should prepare for the fact that the treatment will be quite long. Manufacturers claim that it will take at least six weeks. The treatment regimen includes several courses, which are repeated at intervals of one month.
Standard recommendation implies instillation into the nose of homeopathic oil, 2-4 drops two or three times a day in each nostril.Before proceeding with the instillation procedure, it is recommended that the nasal passages be rinsed with saline, spray with seawater (Aquamaris,Aqualore" etc.). After the nose is rinsed, the pharmacy pipette should be carefully instilled, while ensuring that the oil is heated to room temperature. Cold oil can cause vascular spasm.
Often, another scheme is assigned - with Protargol. At the same time, after washing the nose, Protargol is instilled first. It is an anti-inflammatory drug, a popular antiseptic. Tuev oil after it is buried 20 minutes later. This sequence is followed during one week. Over the next seven days, Protargol and Argolife are dripping. Tuevoy homeopathic oil is not used. For the next week, Argolife is canceled and the homeopathic remedy is again returned to its place. So alternate for one and a half months. Some publications provide a description of the schemes in which two homeopathic preparations of thuja oil are used simultaneously, alternating them weekly.
It is important, after instillation, to tilt the head back a little so that the remedy falls on the tonsil area, so it should be kept for about 10 minutes.
Points for and against"
The use of thuja oil does not cause doubts and questions only in the case of external use of concentrated oil in adults - warts are perfectly burned by this toxic agent. Treatment of pediatric adenoids with homeopathic oil is a moot point.
Proponents and admirers of homeopathy as such assert that the remedy works very well and can even cure adenoiditis of the 3rd degree without surgery. In their statements, supporters of homeopathy refer to a study conducted by American scientists. There, a group of volunteers held fixation of results in adenoids 1-2 degrees.
It is reported that the effectiveness in the treatment of thuja oil showed in about 70% of cases. Children were treated for two weeks. The instillations were performed daily twice; after 14 days, seven out of ten children were found to decrease the growth of lymphoid tissue.
Proponents of evidence-based medicine claim that such a study, even if it was ever conducted (which is not officially reported), is not considered a clinical trial. As for medicine, it answers unambiguously: homeopathic preparations, including Tui oil, do not belong to medicines, there is no data on their effectiveness.
Please note that next to the name of the substance in the oil of thuja there is a Latin D. This letter indicates nothing more than a decimal dilution. The number next to the Latin letter - the data on how many times such a dilution was repeated 10 times. The letter C - sotsennoe breeding.
Thus, the active substance is present in an extremely small amount, which can, if you try, measure, but only in molecules, and not in grams, milligrams. Opponents of homeopathic remedies refer to the fact that such an amount cannot cure someone from something. The Ministry of Health of Russia declares the need to ban advertising of homeopathic remedies as being untrue, and scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences have recognized all homeopathy as a whole as false science.
Thus, the effectiveness of thuja oil is a moot point. But it is safe for children - if the substances are so small that they can not be cured, then they are not enough to cause allergies or side effects. By the way, an allergy to Edas801 and Tui Nam doesn’t usually occur, in any case, there is no such information from physicians.
In defense of the preparations of thuja oil, it is worth saying that in Russia they are registered quite officially; they are included in the reference books in the “Homeopathy” section, produced in Russia, and sold completely legitimately. The price is low - within 200 rubles per bottle.
Side effects
Side effects from the use of homeopathic oil of thuja, according to the instructions, are not registered. But parents should still be careful - if not the active substance, then other components, among which, by the way, pine resin, can cause allergies.
When coughing, sneezing, redness of the skin, swelling of the nasal passages, difficulty breathing, it is recommended to stop using the drug and contact your doctor.
Reviews
Many parents who decide to treat a child with oil of thuja recognize that this is a measure of despair, since much has already been tried and the child is threatened with surgical removal of overgrown tonsils. Some people are surprised to admit that the child has really become easier, but no one has yet managed to cope with grade 3 adenoiditis. Sooner or later, the little patient still goes to the hospital. The most enduring and patient parents managed to hold out on homeopathy and folk remedies for about two years, then still decided in favor of removing adenoids.
According to reviews, parents sometimes do not distinguish concentrated oil from homeopathic. This is where reviews appear describing the terrible consequences of instillation - “the eye is swollen, the face is swollen, we are waiting for the doctor.” When buying thuja oil, be sure to ensure that you do not buy 100% essential oil exclusively for outdoor use.
In this episode of his telecast, Dr. Komarovsky will talk about adenoids. What are they dangerous? What are the treatments? And he will answer additional questions of concerned moms and dads.
