Rengalin for children: instructions for use
Many mothers and pediatricians consider homeopathic medicines ineffective, but there are quite a few parents who, in practice, were convinced of the effectiveness of such remedies in their children. In the fight against cough often use a drug called "Rengalin." This is a product of the well-known company Materia Medica, which also produces Anaferon, Agri and Ergoferon, which are used for acute respiratory viral infections and colds.
The manufacturer recommends using "Rengalin" for any cough in both adults and children older than 3 years. But before giving this drug to a child, parents should know about its features, possible adverse effects, and treatment regimens used in childhood.
Release form
"Rengalin" is represented by two dosage forms.
- The solution, which is taken orally. It has a sweet taste (because of it the agent is often called syrup), there is practically no color and smell. This solution is transparent and is sold in glass bottles that have a plastic dropper. One bottle holds 100 milliliters of funds.
- Tablets that need to be absorbed in the mouth. They also have a sweet taste, have a cylindrical flat shape and white color. One side of the pill is labeled “Rengalin”, and on the second you can see the words “Materia Medica” and at risk. The drug is packaged in blisters of 10 tablets and sold in 10, 20 or 50 pieces in one box.
Composition
Both types of "Rengalina" as active substances contain antibodies to three compounds:
- to morphine;
- to bradykinin;
- to histamine.
They undergo a special affinity purification and are applied to the substrate, which is maltitol in solution, and isomalt in tablets. The amount of each type of antibody in 100 ml of liquid Rengaline is 0.12 g, and in one tablet they are contained in 0.006 g.
The inactive components of the solution are glycerol and potassium sorbate, as well as purified water and citric acid. In the composition of the tablet form, too, there is anhydrous citric acid. In addition, for a dense structure, magnesium stearate is added to this “Rengalin”, and the sweet taste of the drug is provided by saccharin and sodium cyclamate.
Operating principle
During the reception of "Rengalina" observe the following clinical effects:
- reducing the duration and intensity of cough during the day, as well as at night;
- reducing the severity of inflammation in the respiratory tract;
- reduction of pain when coughing;
- elimination of edema of the respiratory mucosa.
All of them are associated with the presence of antibodies to active substances in the composition of both forms of the drug. Such antibodies are able to influence the corresponding receptors - bradykinin, histamine and opioid. The result of this influence will be the following processes:
- brain excitability in the area of the cough center decreases;
- impulses to the brain from peripheral receptors are blocked, which prevents the implementation of the cough reflex and reduces pain;
- muscles of the bronchial tree relaxes (spasm is eliminated);
- symptoms of an allergic reaction are smoothed out.
Indications
The drug is recommended for dry unproductive cough, which is provoked by spasm of the respiratory tract, and when wet cough, during which a lot of sputum is formed, but it is too viscous, which prevents its active separation.The tool also copes well with residual and prolonged cough, which occurs during acute respiratory infections and a long time does not pass. The reason to write "Rengalin" in any form is:
- flu;
- inflammation of the bronchi;
- cold;
- cough caused by an allergic reaction;
- laryngitis;
- pneumonia;
- tuberculosis;
- laryngotracheitis;
- ARVI;
- pharyngitis and other respiratory diseases.
According to information from the manufacturer, it is best to start giving the drug in the first days of the disease, when the symptoms appear very bright. In this case, the effect of "Rengalina" will be most pronounced.
How old is allowed?
As noted above, the treatment of children with Rengaline is possible not earlier than the age of three. Such frames are provided for both the liquid preparation and the tablets. They are due to the lack of research on the effect of "Rengalin" on children 2 years and under. If a cough occurs in a patient who is not yet 3 years old, you should, together with your doctor, choose an analogue for him that can be used in the first years of life without fear.
Contraindications
Both types of "Rengalina" are not used for hypersensitivity to the active or auxiliary ingredients of the chosen form. Due to the presence of maltitol, a liquid preparation should also not be given to children with fructose intolerance. If the child has diabetes, the application of the solution requires caution and control by the doctor. There are no other contraindications for treatment with this remedy.
Side effects
In rare cases, "Rengalin" causes an allergic reaction, which can be manifested by a rash, swelling, itching of the skin and other negative symptoms. Such a reaction may occur in the process of treatment, sometimes even after the first dose of the drug. In this case, “Rengalin” is immediately canceled, and if the child’s general condition has worsened, a medical examination is recommended.
Other side effects during reception of "Rengalin" usually are not noted. The drug does not provoke drowsiness and is not able to depress respiration. In addition, it does not develop addiction, so the treatment can last as long as it takes to get rid of cough.
Instructions for use
“Rengalin” in a liquid form is given to the child to be swallowed, dosing it with an ordinary teaspoon (5 ml of the preparation can be placed in one spoon). The diet of the patient at the time of receipt of the funds is not affected. A single dose of the solution, depending on the disease can be as 5 ml, and 10 ml per reception.
In order for the components of the product to affect the child’s body more strongly, the manufacturer recommends not to swallow the solution immediately, and leave it in the mouth for some time and then swallow it.
Most often, “Rengalin” is given to a child to drink three times a day, but with a strong cough, the doctor can increase the frequency of intake up to 6 times. Usually, more frequent use of the drug is recommended in the first days of the disease, when the symptoms are more pronounced, and as soon as the cough begins to pass, the drug is given in the standard way (three times). - wash down with water is not required;
- The dosage is recommended to be clarified with the doctor, since one tablet is sometimes enough for one dose, and some patients should take 2 pieces at once;
- the duration of admission is also agreed with the pediatrician, but usually the remedy is given until cough disappears;
- Most often, the agent is prescribed three times, but with a very strong cough, the frequency of use, as in the case of the solution, may increase up to 4-6 times a day.
In the solid form, the drug is given only to those children who already know how to dissolve the pills, and not swallow the agent right away.Otherwise, the tablet “Rengalin” should be replaced with a solution.
Overdose
If, due to an oversight of parents or for another reason, the child gets an excessive dosage of “Rengalin”, it can cause loose stools, severe nausea and other dyspepsia symptoms. Such irritation of the digestive tract soon resolves on its own, but in some cases the patient must be examined by a doctor in order to prescribe symptomatic therapy.
Interaction with other drugs
According to the information provided by the manufacturer, Rengalin is compatible with any other medicines. For this reason, doctors without problems include such a tool in the complex treatment of bronchitis, laryngitis and other diseases, combined with expectorant drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, and so on.
