When buying a baby carriage, sellers usually offer to purchase a huge amount of various additional accessories - here you will find raincoats, mosquito nets, glass holders, and all kinds of organizers for trifles ... A lot of accessories come with the carriage, and the more expensive it is, the more usually wider range of these products. Often from manufacturers you can hear that the covers come with the pram. With covers for the stroller itself when folded, everything is clear. But mothers often ask what wheel covers are.

The features of this product is not so easy to understand. Advertising promises a lot of options for this accessory: tailoring from a variety of materials, a special cut, special impregnation, clamps and more.

Unfortunately, dry and moderate weather is rare in our climate. In the context of our harsh Russian reality, we are accustomed to the fact that today there is heat on the street, tomorrow is slush, and in the fall of snow will fall and the streets will be covered with an anti-icing agent. No one wants all this "joy" on the wheels of a baby carriage to migrate into the house. What can you think of in this situation?

After you walked through the autumn mud and returned home, you have two options for the development of events. It is possible after an active walk and lifting heavy carriages on the floor, with a sad sigh, to rush to wash the wheels of your vehicle. Since this is usually done in the bathroom, the next inevitable stage is washing the bathroom itself. Otherwise, your hallway will turn into a sort of hall in a public place. Frankly speaking, the prospect is rather bleak, especially considering the number of urgent matters that any mother is waiting for. Moreover, a child who has just come from a walk requires attention, and he can do it very actively and loudly.

But there is a second option. You can spend a few seconds and put on protective covers on the wheels. The issue is resolved!

There is one more important scope for covers. Let us imagine a situation in which it is necessary to plunge the carriage into a car, and on the street there is the usual spring slush or sleet and rain. When loading into the trunk, the wheels are smeared and soaked around, and in the end, you will either have to eliminate this outrage on your own, or turn to experts and spend money on a car wash. Covers for wheels are not universal, they differ from each other primarily in size. There are two main categories: small (up to 25 cm) and large (from 25 cm). In the category of small there are also covers for double wheels, which are mounted on strollers. But already within these categories, the covers are universal, since they are not subdivided according to the models of wheelchairs and are quite suitable for any variant.

In those days, when the Russian market did not yet have this simple accessory, the craftsmen decided to use ordinary plastic bags instead. Some began to use medical shoe covers. The disadvantage was that they needed quite a lot.

Good wheel covers are made of high-quality materials with special impregnation that repels moisture and dirt.

These covers are fastened and removed very easily, on the principle of a shower cap, are fixed with rubber bands. There are, of course, ingenious devices, equipped with special clamps on buttons, hooks or special straps. The manufacturer usually places on the packaging of such goods a brief instruction manual on how to install.

Many mothers, having familiarized themselves with this product, say that they would easily cope with the manufacture of such a device. And the quality would be no worse, and perhaps better than the brand. In fact, given the huge variety of fabrics and materials presented on the shelves of stores, it is not difficult to believe.

So, is it possible to sew wheel covers on your own? The answer is definitely positive. Especially if you have a decent sewing machine. No special skills in sewing are needed here, quite enough and basic.

The first thing you need to decide on a cloth. Its main property in our case will be impermeability and density. But it does not need extremes - of course, the tarp does not suit us. It is unlikely that your home sewing machine will cope with such an extreme task. Yes, and an elastic band to pull such a fabric then fail. In most cases, polyester or bologna is suggested for this purpose.

You will also need a certain number of meters of gum, it is especially important in our product, because with the help of gum it is not allowed to drop from the covers of dried mud. You can replace the gum with a suitable cord. Other necessary supplies for work — threads, pins, scissors, needles — are likely to be found in any household.

There are two options: closed blind caps and open covers on the wheels. Both options are easy to make, so the choice depends only on your personal taste preferences.

The preliminary stage of work will be to take measurements. You need to measure both the diameter of the wheel and its thickness. Another important measurement will be the circumference of the wheel.

Consider the first option: closed caps. At the first stage you need to carve out four circles, and the diameter of each of them equals the diameter of the wheel plus 15 centimeters. In order to avoid inaccuracies it is better to pre-apply the pattern on the paper, and then transfer it to the fabric.At the next stage, you need to sew a rubber band around the edge of the circle to make a device that resembles a shower cap.

Now consider the second option: open covers. The pattern will be a rectangle. Dimensions are calculated as follows: the length will be the measurement of the circumference of the wheel itself, plus 8-10 centimeters. The width will be about 20 centimeters. First, you need to stitch on the machine short sections of fabric (first bend about one and a half centimeters, then the same number), then sew long sections and be sure to leave a hole for the elastic. At the end of the sewing work, insert the gum.

There is another option more difficult. It is a modification of the first type - a closed cap. Not only circles are cut out, but also rectangles of the appropriate size (5-6 centimeters wide, a little longer than the measured circle).

By the number of rectangles is equal to the number of circles. A drawstring is made from this strip. It is bent in half and carefully mounted to the circles - to facilitate their work, it is recommended to tidy up a little, in this case the circumference will coincide with the drawstring length. Well, after the end of the connection of these parts, you just need to insert the cord and place the retainers at its ends. Sometimes these covers are called "berets."

For the manufacture of all types of covers you need to remember to follow simple rules. First of all, this thing you create solely for yourself, so you must put quality at the forefront. Do not worry, if suddenly something goes wrong, as you planned. It is better to redo this item again than to leave it made with a flaw. The edges of the fabric must be carefully processed, nowhere must thread sticking up.

All knots need to be properly and properly secured, as these covers will be used frequently, and they will also be machine washed periodically, which also implies good product quality.

Well, the most primitive, but no less effective option is to sew simple bags with an utyazhka, in which the wheels can be hidden completely. Zero level of complexity, but the benefits are obvious.

Do not forget to shake out wheel covers from time to time, as well as wash them. Since the material used for the covers is very durable, they will not suffer from machine washings.
