Dr. Komarovsky about diapers
In the modern family, where there is a baby, it is quite difficult to imagine a life without diapers. They allow you to raise a child in comfort, first of all, for the parents themselves. It is convenient to walk with a baby, visit the clinic, the baby's sleep at night in a quality diaper is stronger than without it. However, the society has not yet come to a common opinion on the relationship between the harm and benefits of diapers. The famous doctor Evgeny Komarovsky talks about how to treat diapers, how to use them correctly.

Baby diapers, in the sense in which they are perceived now, became widespread in Russia in the late 90s. Until that time, diapers were gauze triangular, and in families, which were incredibly lucky, the children grew up in reusable diapers - cellophane pants on buttons, in which the usual gauze padding was inserted.
Today, on the shelves of pharmacies, children's stores and ordinary supermarkets there is a huge selection of these disposable hygiene items. Diapers are both universal and designed separately for boys and girls. In addition, they differ in size (based on the minimum and maximum weight of the baby), as well as the style - are Velcro, in the form of panties. All these parameters are necessarily indicated on the package.
Opinion of Dr. Komarovsky
Yevgeny Komarovsky believes that diapers are a useful thing not so much for the child as for his mother, who, after giving birth, needs to have a good rest and recover, and not stand for hours above a basin with dirty diapers that need urgent washing.
The opinions of the older generation, who raised their children without disposable shorts, the doctor advises not to take into account, because it is often not supported by any reasonable arguments about why it is more useful for the infant to write and crap in a diaper.
Parents who chose disposable diapers as a hygienic product for children should remember a few important rules:
- Temperature mode. If in the room where the baby is growing, the efforts of the grandmother and mother are always warm and even hot (above 25 degrees), then in the diaper the child will be more than uncomfortable. This will lead to chafing, contact dermatitis, and a host of other unpleasant skin manifestations of sweating. As much as you need to maintain the temperature in the room 18-20 degrees, no more. In the midst of the summer heat, it is better not to wear the baby "pampers" at the time when he is awake.
- Duration of use. Some parents are so accustomed to the fact that the baby wears “diapers”, that they “forget” to take them off in time. If the mother has already recovered after giving birth, and the house has a washing machine and hot water, you should not keep the baby in the diaper all the time. As soon as the baby begins to sit, you can hold it over the pot, at the same time you can learn to “catch” the moments when he wants to go to the toilet. Weaning a child at night in a dream to write in a diaper can be a little later, when he learns to write during the day and crap in the pot.
- Caution for illness. If the baby's temperature rises above 38 degrees, Dr. Komarovsky recommends not to wear a diaper. It closes about a third of the body area of the child, heat exchange with high heat will be disturbed.
- Hygiene Change your panties as often as the situation requires.Definitely - after each bowel movement and as far as filling - at other times.
About the dangers of diapers
All existing studies of supposedly authoritative world scientists about the harm of diapers Komarovsky calls unproven, because the arguments presented in publications do not correspond to the theory of evidence-based medicine. In particular, the probability of diaper rash and dermatitis in disposable panties is approximately equal to the similar probability in diapers. And in babies growing up in diapers, and from time to time (in a dream) lying in these wet diapers, the likelihood of problems with the skin on the bottom increases significantly.
Quite often, opponents of children's disposable diapers talk about their negative impact on the health of boys - allegedly, the scrotum overheats, resulting in reduced sperm quality, which in adulthood leads to male infertility. Indeed, the number of infertile men is steadily increasing, and today about 15% of the representatives of the stronger sex cannot have their children for health reasons. However, it is stupid to blame diapers for this, says Yevgeny Komarovsky.
The factors that affect the reproductive function of men are ecology, bad habits, transferred infectious diseases (such as parotitis), but definitely not disposable diapers.
And here's why: for the production of male sex hormones are responsible Leydig cells, which are located in the testicles. But up to 7-8 years, they practically do not work and are activated only on the eve of puberty.
Sperm, as such, begins to be produced in the boy's body at the earliest by 10-11 years old, but at this age, the youngsters no longer wear diapers. Thus, when asked if they are harmful to boys, the answer is quite simple - it can’t hurt what’s not. Sperm is not produced, the mechanism is not running, which means there is no harm from an extra degree, which the diaper will add to the temperature of the testicles.
For especially doubters, Yevgeny Komarovsky cites the following data: in order to reduce sperm motility, it is necessary for several days to affect the scrotum with a temperature above 45 degrees. In this case, the man will not be fruitless, just his sperm will have less speed when moving, and this does not deprive him of the opportunity to become a dad. The temperature of the scrotum of a boy who grows in gauze and diaper is about 34-34.5 degrees. If the child wears disposable panties, the temperature of the scrotum is at 36 degrees. To those 45 degrees at which a small change in the quality of sperm occurs, as you can see, far away.
If the grandmother's parents or other older relatives say something about a "greenhouse effect", then Komarovsky advises to recall the school course of physics, chemistry, and look at the data on the composition of diapers.
Usually, disposable panties are made from materials that, on the contrary, have an absorbing effect, they absorb moisture, and do not accumulate it in a greenhouse type.
Diaper Tips
Diapers must be of high quality and safe. Usually such properties of their products are guaranteed by "promoted" brands. Yes, such panties are not cheap, but less complaints come to them. It is much worse in the pursuit of saving the family budget to buy an unknown creation of Chinese industry (or even an underground shop). Such “authors” do not guarantee you that you have chosen eco-friendly materials, but because no one cancels the risk of allergies, dermatitis.
Diapers should not be small or large baby. And the one and the other, will bring him quite understandable inconvenience. In the first case - will reap and crash, in the second - hang out, rub.
Pay attention to the absorbent layer. Do a home experiment with pouring liquid into a diaper, see how the inner absorbent layer is distributed, and you can see if the crumbs at night in such panties will be wet and uncomfortable.
