Tablets "Nemozol" for children: instructions for use
Nemozol is one of the popular anthelmintic drugs and is often prescribed to children in the form of a suspension. However, this medicine is also available in solid form. Is it possible to give such pills to a child and under what helminthic invasions they are prescribed? What is the dosage of Nemozol used in pills in childhood and how to take medicine to get rid of worms?
Release form
Nemozol tablets presented in pharmacies in two options:
- Chewable tablets. They are distinguished by an elongated oval shape, almost white color, a pleasant smell and sweet taste. This Nemozol is packaged in blisters of 1 piece and sold for 1 tablet in a pack.
- Tablets in the shell. They have a white shade and a convex round shape. This form of medicine is available in two dosages. In a pack of drugs with a lower dose contains 2 tablets, and the drug with a higher dosage is sold one tablet each.
Composition
The action of Nemozol is provided by a substance called albendazole. This ingredient is presented in tablets in the shell at a dose of 200 mg and 400 mg, and in the chewable tablets in the amount of 400 mg. Medications include starch from corn, gelatin, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate and colloidal silicon dioxide, as well as povidone-30, propyl paraben, talc and methyl paraben.
Additionally, chewable tablets include mint and pineapple flavors, aspartame and citric acid, and the tablets contain propylene glycol, titanium dioxide and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (the shell is created from these substances).
Operating principle
Albendazole has a property to influence the intestinal cells of the worms and disrupt the biochemical processes in the body of parasites, with the result that the medicine destroys the worms and some protozoa. The drug actively affects:
- roundworm;
- larvae of pork tapeworm;
- pinworms;
- Echicococcus and its larvae;
- toxocars;
- Giardia;
- whipworm;
- hookworm;
- pathogen strongyloidosis;
- noncators;
- trichinella.
The drug is able to destroy both one and several types of worms. Absorption of tablets in the gastrointestinal tract occurs slowly, but accelerates with simultaneous ingestion of food. Bioavailability of the drug is estimated at 30%. Once in the bloodstream, albendazole is transferred to the liver, where sulfoxide is formed. This metabolite also has anthelmintic activity.
After all metabolic transformations, the drug is excreted by the kidneys, but if the function of this organ is disturbed, its secretion from the body does not deteriorate.

From what age is prescribed?
There are no age restrictions in the instructions for Nemozol, but in practice the drug in suspension is not used in children younger than a year, and tablets are prescribed to patients older than 3 years. However, the medicine can be prescribed in the first years of life, if there is evidence for such treatment.
However, you should not give the drug to a child up to 3 years old or older, without a doctor’s appointment.
Contraindications
The drug is not given if the child has an intolerance to any of the components of the tablets. Nemozol is also not prescribed for retinal lesions. If a child’s blood formation is impaired or there are liver pathologies, use of the drug should be careful.

When treating with Nemozol, such negative symptoms may occur:
- nausea;
- skin rash;
- dizziness;
- vomiting;
- pruritus;
- fever;
- stomach ache;
- headaches;
- increase blood pressure.
In some children, the drug has a negative effect on the work of the liver, which is noticeable in the rise in transaminase activity. In general, a blood test with long-term treatment can reveal leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis.
Application and dosage
Tablets should be taken with meals with a small amount of water. The simultaneous treatment of all family members living in the same house as a child diagnosed with worm infestation is recommended. The type of helminthiasis and the weight of a small patient affect the dosage of the medication:
- If a child has one of the nematodes (analysis showed infection with ascaris, pinworm or other round worms), Nemozol is taken once. At the age of two years should drink or chew one pill with a dosage of 400 mg or swallow 2 tablets of 200 mg at once. Children younger than 2 years old are usually not given a tablet preparation, but in some cases it is necessary to resort to such treatment and then the child is given 200 mg of albendazole once (1 tablet with a dosage of 200 mg or half a chewable tablet).
- Treatment of echinococcosis is usually prescribed in courses lasting 28 days., and with neurocysticercosis, the medication is applied from 8 to 30 days. With such pathologies, children weighing up to 60 kg calculate the dose by weight, multiplying the number of kilograms by 15. This is how the daily amount of albendazole is obtained, which is then divided into two doses. With a weight greater than 60 kg, the medicine is taken twice a day at 400 mg. The maximum permissible dose of albendazole per day is 800 mg.
- If the child has giardiasis, the dosage of the drug is determined by weight. Depending on the activity of the process, the doctor prescribes from 10 to 15 mg of the active ingredient per 1 kg of the patient’s body weight. In this amount, Nemozol is given once a day, and the duration of therapy ranges from 5 to 7 days.
- For treatment of toxocariasis, dose to children under 14 must also be calculated on the basis of body weight. At 1 kilogram, 10 mg of albendazole is required, for example, a child weighing 40 kg should be given 400 mg of the drug per day. This amount is divided into two doses, and the duration of therapy ranges from 7 to 14 days. At the age of over 14 years old, the medication is taken twice a day, 1 chewable tablet or 1 tablet in a shell with a higher dosage (400 mg).
Overdose
Excessive doses may cause nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, vomiting, and other symptoms. To eliminate them, wash the stomach and give a sorbent. If necessary, consult a doctor for symptomatic treatment.
Interaction with other drugs
If neurocysticercosis is detected in a child, Nemozol is used in combination with glucocorticoids and anticonvulsant drugs. The simultaneous use of tablets and dexamethasone or cimetidine increases the blood content of the active metabolite of the drug, which enhances its effect.
Terms of sale and storage
Acquisition of the tableted Nemozol in a pharmacy requires a prescription from the doctor. On average, the price of one chewable tablet is 170-190 rubles, and for one tablet in a shell with a dosage of 400 mg, you need to pay from 160 to 210 rubles. A dry place, hidden from children, is suitable for storing the drug at home, where the temperature will not be above +25 degrees.
The shelf life of the solid form of the drug is 3 years. If it has expired, it is forbidden to give medicine to children.
Reviews
On the use of Nemozol in helminthiasis in children, in most cases, they respond positively. Parents confirm that the drug is highly effective and fights with the majority of worms. According to moms, children tolerate Nemozol mostly well, and side effects from tablets occur very rarely. However, the solid form is often called uncomfortable for children, therefore it is replaced with a suspension.
Analogs
Other medicines with similar therapeutic effects are suitable for replacing Nemozol. For example, a child can be given chewable tablets Sanoxal, which also contain albendazole at a dose of 400 mg in 1 tablet. One pack of Sanoxal includes 1 tablet, and its price is about the same as that of Nemozol.
In addition, children with helminthiasis may be prescribed:
- Pyrantel This medication in suspension is prescribed from the age of six months. It is also represented by tablets containing 250 mg of pyrantel.
- Dekaris. This medicine is produced in tablets and contains levamisole. It at a dosage of 50 mg can be given from 3 years.
- Vermox. These mebendazole tablets are prescribed for children over 2 years old.
- Helmintox. The effect of this suspension is provided by pyrantel. Medication prescribed from 6 months. It is also available in tablet form recommended for children over 6 years old.
- Vormin. Such tablets include mebendazole and are used from the age of two.
Any of these drugs is used when infecting worms and can be prescribed for prophylaxis to family members, however, you should not choose an analogue for the purpose of replacing Nemosol as prescribed by a doctor. If, for any reason, it is impossible to give Nemozol to the child, it is recommended to consult a doctor for the choice of another anthelmintic drug.
