Cerepro use in the treatment of children

Content

The drug "Cerepro" refers to nootropic drugs, because its reception has a positive effect on the functions of the brain. It is often prescribed to older people to improve their condition after a stroke, with dementia and other brain diseases. However, sometimes neurologists prescribe such a drug and children.

Release form

Cerepro is produced by the Russian company Veropharm and is sold in pharmacies in two dosage forms. One of them is the capsules, in which the oblong shape and brown-red hue. Inside the soft gelatin shell is a clear, oily liquid. This Cerepro option is packaged in blisters of 14 capsules each and sold in boxes of 1 or 2 blisters.

The second form of the drug is an ampoule with a solution that is administered intravenously in case of acute diseases, although it can be prick into the muscle tissue. It is transparent, without any shade, and placed in a 4 ml transparent glass ampoule. One package of this type of medicine will interfere with 3 or 5 ampoules.

Composition

The main component of Cerepro is called choline alfoscerate and is present in both forms of the drug as a glycerylphosphorylcholine hydrate. This compound is in the same capsule at a dosage of 400 mg, and in one milliliter of the solution for injection, in an amount of 250 mg. As part of the capsules, it is supplemented with medical gelatin, water, methyl and propyl paraben, dye, sorbitol, glycerin and titanium dioxide, and in ampoules, in addition to the active ingredient, there is only water for injection.

Operating principle

The active substance of the drug after it enters the body is broken down into two compounds. One of them is choline - a substance that is involved in the formation of acetylcholine, which is an important neurotransmitter. The second compound is glycerophosphate, which is used for membrane synthesis in nerve cells. Due to such substances, there is an increase in metabolic processes and blood flow in the brain cells, which has a beneficial effect on various brain functions.

Do children use?

In contraindications to the injection form “Cerepro”, the age is under 18 years of age, since no studies confirming the safety and efficacy of these injections during childhood were conducted. There are no age limits for the use of capsules in paper annotations, but because of the solid form, it is difficult to give such an option of “Cerepro” to children under school age.

However, in some situations, neurologists and other doctors prescribe such a nootropic agent for children of any age, prescribing it in capsules and injections. At the same time, the specialist assesses the need for such treatment and takes into account many other nuances, therefore, it is permissible to use Cerepro in children only as prescribed by a doctor.

The duration of treatment is also prescribed by the doctor for each child separately, but usually Cerepro is prescribed for a long period, for example, 3 months.

Reviews

On the use of "Cerepro" as prescribed by a doctor, many parents respond positively. They confirm that the treatment helped to improve memory, eliminate dizziness and headaches, recover faster from injuries or diseases of the brain. The advantages of the medication include good tolerability and effectiveness of capsules. The disadvantages are the lack of a form convenient for children (for example, in syrup or suspension) and a rather high price.

Analogs

The most well-known drug that can replace "Cerepro", as it contains the same active compound, is "Gliatilin". It is also available in capsules and solution for injections, but it costs a little more. Such a remedy is prescribed for the same indications as Cerepro, for patients of any age, but without prescribing a neurologist, it should not be used in children.

Other analogs that also contain choline alfostserat are "Noocholin Rompharm", "Tsereton", "Cholitilin", "Gleatser" and "Deletsit". Instead, the doctor may also prescribe another nootropic agent, for example, "Cortexin», «Nootropil», «Anvifen», «Pantogam», «Phenibut», «Semax», «Aminalon" and so on.

But, since their action on the brain provides different active compounds, only a doctor should choose any of the nootropes instead of Cerepro.
