Use of Nurofen for teething

Content

Fever, poor appetite, moods, pain in the gums and other uncomfortable symptoms are often observed when teething baby teeth and torture toddler. To help the little ones, mothers sometimes decide to give one of the antipyretic drugs, for example, Nurofen. But is it worth using this medicine in children with incisive teeth, how does it affect the children's body and when it is contraindicated for babies?

The reasons for the increase in temperature when teething

Fever can be called one of the frequent symptoms of new teeth in infants. The rise in temperature is due to the inflammatory process in the gums, resulting from the action of active substances, which soften the tissues and make them more friable. In addition, local immunity during teething decreases slightly.

Most often, the rise in temperature is noted by the mothers of children who have molars (molars). Because of the large area of their crowns, babies also suffer from painful sensations. Many babies have incisors without fever, but the upper canines, also called "eye" teeth, not only very often provoke a fever, but also erupt with severe pain.

The duration of the temperature rise in babies with cutting milk teeth is different, because each peanut reacts individually to a new tooth. Someone fever appears only for one day, and sometimes the heat can not subside to a week, for example, if you are going to "hatch" several teeth at once.

However, on average, a temperature rise is observed within one to three days.

Should I give a child with cutting teeth Nurofen?

Most often, the temperature in babies who have a baby tooth cut rises to + 37 + 37.50С. This situation does not require any treatment, but the mother should watch the crumbs to notice a further rise in temperature. In more rare cases, a toddler with a cutting tooth has a fever, in which the thermometer shows from +37.5 to +38 degrees.

As a rule, this temperature is also not "knock down" if the child carries it normally. If the condition of the baby has significantly deteriorated or fever can harm it (for example, the baby has some serious illness), it is possible to give the baby an antipyretic even with such indicators of the thermometer.

Very rarely, the child's temperature rises to +39 and higher, but the reason for this reaction may be not an erupting tooth, but some kind of infection.

If the thermometer showed such high numbers, you should immediately consult a doctor to make sure that the fever is not a symptom of any dangerous disease for the infant.

Nurofen's action is ensured by its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. Such biological substances are formed during the inflammatory process and provoke the appearance of pain, as well as an increase in temperature. It is precisely by preventing their formation that Nurofen's admission effectively fights fever and reduces or completely eliminates pain.

What form of medicine to choose?

To reduce the temperature and reduce pain, use specially designed for children. Nurofen forms:

  • Rectal candles. They are sold in packs of 10 pieces packed in aluminum blisters. In each suppository as the main ingredient acts ibuprofen at a dose of 60 mg. Additionally, the preparation contains fats so that the candle can be easily introduced into the intestine and dissolves faster.
  • Suspension. This medicine has a pleasant strawberry or orange smell and taste, and one bottle includes 100, 200 or 150 ml of syrup. A dosing syringe is attached to it, allowing you to accurately measure the desired amount of medication. In 5 ml of this Nurofen contains 100 mg of the active ingredient, which is supplemented with glycerol, gum, maltitol and other substances. In this case, the drug does not contain dyes and sugar.

The drug is released in tablets, but children do not give them until the age of six (because each tablet contains 200 mg of ibuprofen), so they are not used during the eruption of milk teeth, but can be used for dental pain in school children when the teeth begin to change to indigenous ones.

If the baby has a temperature reaction to the cutting baby tooth, then when choosing the dosage form of Nurofen Consider the following points:

  • Both suspension, and candles are allowed to be used at kids older than three months. In this case, suppositories are used up to two years of age, and liquid Nurofen - up to 12 years.
  • According to moms, it is more convenient and faster for infants to inject a candle than to give medicine by mouth.
  • Syrup is easier to dose, taking into account the weight of body karapuz.
  • The action of the suppository begins faster and also longer.
  • Allergy-free babies are preferable to candles, because they do not contain chemical excipients (except fats), and the suspension includes flavors and other additives that can provoke allergies.

Dosage for children

Nurofen in suppositories is inserted into the rectum of the child one candle. If the child weighs 6-8 kg and its age is from 3 to 9 months, the drug can be used up to 3 times per day. For children aged 9-24 months with a body weight of 8 to 12 kg, the medicine may be prescribed four times.

The suspension is poured into the mouth of a toddler with a dosing syringe, slowly pressing on its piston. This form of Nurofen is preferably given after feeding at this dosage:

  • A child of 3-6 months is allowed to give the medicine no more than 3 times a day in a single dose of 2.5 ml.
  • To karapazu 6-12 months, the suspension is given in the same dosage, but 3-4 times a day.
  • For children from one year to three years, the medication is prescribed at 5 ml per reception, and for patients of 4-6 years old - at 7.5 ml.
  • If the pain has arisen in a child over six years old, he can be given as a suspension (10 ml each at 7-9 years old and 15 ml each at the age of 10-12 years old) and tablets.

Between use of any form of Nurofen should be at least 6 hours. Most often, the drug is used with an interval of 8 hours, and the duration of treatment during fever should not exceed 3 days. If the temperature reaction persists, you need to consult a doctor.

When not prescribed during teething?

The drug should not be given without consulting a doctor, because it has a very extensive list of contraindications, including ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, liver pathology, hyperkalemia, cerebral hemorrhage, ibuprofen intolerance, kidney disease and other health problems.

There are also many diseases in which the use of Nurofen requires pediatrician control, for example, anemia and bronchial asthma. In addition, this medication is incompatible with many other medications, which should also be considered before using it.

What can be replaced?

Ibuprofen can serve as an effective replacement for Nurofen for a child with fever due to teething, since it not only contains the same active substance, but also comes in the same forms (suppositories, suspensions, tablets, etc.). In addition, paracetamol preparations have a similar effect, for example, Calpol, Efferalgan or Panadol.

Still very often, babies with erupting teeth are additionally prescribed local remedies that can reduce pain and eliminate the inflammatory process. These drugs include Calgel, Holisal, Dentinox, Pansoral, Baby Doctor and other dental gels.
