Herbal remedies for cough in the form of syrups are very popular with parents, because every mother wants to treat the child with natural and harmless drugs. One of them can be called sydelix syrup. At what age can children be treated with this remedy and how is it dispensed?

Release form

Gedelix syrup is a thick, yellowish solution (sometimes with a brown tinge) that has a peculiar odor. Normally, the liquid is clear, but the appearance of sediment at the bottom or clouding of the solution is allowed. The tool is placed in a bottle of glass, to which is attached a dosing spoon for 5 milliliters. One bottle contains 100 ml of medication.

Composition

The active ingredient is an extract derived from ivy leaves. Such a substance in 100 ml of the drug contains 0.8 grams. Additionally, the tool includes glycerol, gietellose and sorbitol. Also in the composition there is oil from the fruits of anise, water, propylene glycol and macrogol.

Operating principle

A means note expectorant action. Thanks to the saponins present in the ivy extract, this drug also has antispasmodic and mucolytic properties.

Indications

The reason to prescribe a remedy in syrup is a situation where the secret of the bronchi due to its high viscosity clears throat with great difficulty. Such a medicine is in demand both in case of inflammation of the bronchi and in case of infectious lesions of the upper respiratory tract.

The drug can be prescribed from birth, that is, such a medicine is permissible to give even babies. There is also another form of Gadelix - drops, which is used only with 2 years.

Contraindications

The drug should not be given to children who have found hypersensitivity to its components. A medicine in this form can harm a child with fructose intolerance or a deficiency of arginine succinate synthetase. There are no other contraindications for taking this drug in children.

Side effects

Since the basis of the drug is a plant extract, the child's body can receive an allergy to receive the drug. Also, some young patients respond to this syrup with nausea, dilution of the stool, abdominal pain or vomiting.   • The drug is advised to drink after eating undiluted, but for babies it is allowed to mix it with a small amount of water.
  • Dosage means chosen by the pediatrician, but most often a single dose to children under 10 years prescribed 2.5 ml of syrup, and at the age of 10 years - 5 ml of the drug.
  • Babies under one year are given medicine once a day.
  • Children aged 1-4 years take the drug three times a day, so the daily dosage will be 7.5 ml of the drug.
  • For children 4-10 years old, the daily dose is increased to 10 ml, therefore, four times a day is prescribed.
  • For children older than ten years, the daily dose is 15 ml, so the drug at this age is taken three times a day.
  • The duration of treatment depends on the disease, but the medication is not prescribed for a period of less than 7 days.If the symptoms of the disease have passed, it is recommended to drink the syrup for a few more days.

Overdose

Too much dose provokes vomiting, severe nausea and diarrhea. Sometimes an overdose of the drug causes gastritis or enteritis. For treatment, you should stop taking the medication and contact your doctor for symptomatic treatment.

Interaction with other medicines

The drug is not advised to give along with drugs that cause inhibition of the cough reflex. This combination of drugs provokes stagnation of sputum, because it blocks coughing from the bronchi.
