Colorless urine in a child
Changes in the color of urine can tell a lot, for example, about the baby’s diet, crumbs of medicines or various diseases. But what if the baby's urine suddenly became discolored and looked like water? Is it dangerous and is it a sign of illness?
What color should be normal?
The color of urine is affected by the content of pigments, which are called urochromes. The color of urine in healthy babies is yellow, and the color intensity can be from a very light yellow shade to a very rich one. The more pigments in the baby's urine, the more intense the color of the liquid will be. In this case, in the morning, the urine of the baby will be darker, as it is concentrated during the night's sleep.
Possible reasons
The appearance of discolored urine in a child can be caused by:
- The use of large amounts of liquid, as well as food, in which a lot of water (for example, watermelon). The kidneys have to remove the resulting fluid in larger quantities, which causes the clarification of urine.
- Diabetes mellitus. One of its symptoms is increased thirst, and since water enters the body in excess, it is excreted in more quantities, and there are less pigments in the urine.
- Diabetes mellitus. For such a disease is also characterized by constant thirst, and the kidneys are trying to help in the removal of glucose, therefore, work more actively.
- Renal failure. Due to the disease, the kidney function is impaired, so the body fluid is not absorbed back into the kidneys, which can lead to dehydration.
- The use of diuretic drugs. Urine leaves the bladder faster than it is saturated with pigments.
When should I go to the doctor?
If the urine of the child has become very pale, almost transparent, like water, while the amount of urine excreted has increased, the child must be shown to a specialist.
It should be noted that for urine of an infant baby pale color is a variant of the norm, because in the first months after birth, the kidney function is only formed, and the infant receives only mother's milk or a mixture.
If the child gave out yellow urine, and then she suddenly brightened, you should go with the baby to the pediatrician. The doctor will send the baby to clinical blood and urine tests, and if necessary to other studies, as well as an examination by a nephrologist or endocrinologist.
