Cholisal for children: instructions for use
Gol "Kholisal" is a popular drug in dental practice, because it acts locally, while reducing pain, eliminating the inflammatory process and destroying bacteria. This medicine helps to treat gingivitis, stomatitis and other diseases of the oropharynx. But before you apply the gel in childhood, you should learn more about its composition, reasons for use and dosages allowed for children.
Release form
The drug is manufactured in Poland and sold in aluminum tubes containing 10 grams of transparent gel. It is colorless and uniform, smells of anise oil. Other dosage forms (ointment, cream, lozenges and so on) under the name "Cholisal" are not available.
Composition
The action of "Cholisala" is immediately due to two active compounds. One of them is choline salicylate, which is contained in one gram of the drug at a dose of 87.1 mg. The second active ingredient of the drug is tsetalkoniya chloride. Its dosage in 1 gram of gel is 100 µg.
Glycerol, 96% ethanol and gietellose are among the inactive ingredients of Cholisala. The drug also contains propyl and methyl parahydroxybenzoate. The smell of the gel is due to oil from the seeds of anise, and for a more liquid structure all the auxiliary components are supplemented with water.
Operating principle
Thanks to a combination of two active ingredients, Cholisal is a combined local remedy.
Choline salicylate in its composition is a group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (refers to salicylic acid derivatives), so it has all the effects that NSAIDs have. This compound affects cyclooxygenase, which leads to inhibition of the production of interleukin 1 and prostaglandins, and also affects neutrophils and macrophages. This gives the gel anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. In addition, choline salicylate has some antifungal and antibacterial effects.
Cetalkonium chloride is an antiseptic agent, as it can affect various bacteria, as well as viral particles and fungi. Adding such a compound to the gel helps to prevent suppuration of the damaged mucous membrane, as well as fungal and viral complications.
Since the base “Cholisala” is alcohol-containing, gel-like and has good adhesive properties, the effect after treatment develops very quickly (within two to three minutes) and lasts a rather long period (up to 8 hours), as the active substances are retained on the surface of the mucous membrane and penetrate it well.
Indications

Is it possible to use when teething?
Indeed, one of the indications for the use of "Cholisal" are the painful sensations that appear in the mouth of a child during the period of eruption of milk or permanent teeth. The first teeth begin to cut in babies at the age of 5-6 months, but pain, itching and other discomfort can disturb a few weeks before the appearance of a new tooth.
Some babies tolerate this time with firmness and the teeth appear almost unnoticed by the parents. Other tots do not tolerate pain and discomfort, so they begin to act up and cry, and their sleep and appetite may worsen. It is in such cases that local remedies are used with an anesthetic effect, including Cholisal.
How old is allowed?
According to the annotations to the gel, the use of "Cholisal" in children without fear is possible from 1 year. If use is required in an infant who is not yet one year old, you should consult with your doctor.

The optimal frequency of use of the drug - 2-3 times a day, and the duration of use is determined individually. A single dose of "Cholisal" for a child is considered a strip of gel with a length of 5 mm. To apply the medicine, you need to wash your hands and squeeze the drug on your finger. Next, an adult massaging with a little pressure should rub the gel in the affected place.
