Suspension "Nimulid": instructions for use for children

Content

Nimulide is an anti-inflammatory nonsteroid medication, so it is often prescribed for severe pain, inflammation, or fever. For children, the Nimulide suspension is the most convenient, because it has a pleasant smell and sweet taste. At what age is it prescribed for babies, is such a medicine dangerous for children's health and what dosages are used for children of different ages?

Release form

Nimulide in suspension is a yellowish thick liquid, which has a pleasant aroma and sweet taste. This form of medicine is available in brown glass or plastic bottles of 60 ml of the drug in one bottle. Together with the bottle of suspension in the box there is a measuring cup and instruction.

In addition to the suspension, Nimulide is also produced in solid form (tablets that dissolve and tablets that are swallowed) and in the form of a gel.

There are no such variants of the drug as syrup, drops, capsules, cream, granules or ampoules for injections.

Composition

The action of the suspension is provided by a substance called nimesulide. In 5 milliliters of medication, it is contained in a dosage of 50 mg and supplemented with glycerin, sorbitol, sodium benzoate, xanthan gum, and some other ingredients. For a pleasant smell and taste in the medicine there are additives of vanilla and mango.

Operating principle

Nimulide has anti-inflammatory effects, as well as pain relief and lowers body temperature if it is elevated. These effects of the suspension are due to the ability of nimesulide to inhibit substances involved in the inflammatory process, the appearance of pain and a temperature reaction. First of all, the drug inhibits an enzyme called cyclooxygenase 2, which leads to a decrease in the formation of prostaglandins.

Drunk suspension immediately begins to be absorbed and after about 1.5-2 hours the concentration of its active compound in the patient's blood becomes maximum. It lasts for about 12 hours, after which the medicine begins to leave the body and is completely excreted in 24 hours with urine, without accumulating.

Application and recommended dosage

Suspension taken three times a day. Before each dose, Nimulide should be agitated so that the components of the medication are distributed evenly in the water. In addition, the drug is desirable to give the child after meals, so that the suspension is less irritating to the digestive system. Usually children wash down this sweet medicine with ordinary water.

To calculate a single dosage of the suspension, you need to know the weight of the small patient. Each kilogram of its body weight requires 1.5 mg of the active ingredient. In addition, you can not multiply, and use the table of single doses, which is in the annotation to the drug and in his box. In such a table in one column indicates the weight of the child, and the second - a single dosage of the suspension and the frequency of its reception. For example, if a child weighs 11.5 kg, then the table looks at the dose of medication in front of the weight “10-12 kg”, which corresponds to 1.5 ml of suspension at one time.

The maximum permissible amount of medication per day must also be calculated by weight, since the child should not receive more than 5 mg of nimesulide per 1 kg of its weight per day.

For example, a patient who weighs 16 kg can take up to 80 mg of the active component Nimulida, which corresponds to 8 ml of suspension. If a child’s weight exceeds 40 kilograms, the dosage of liquid Nimulide is no longer considered by weight, but is given a medication in a dose that is prescribed for adults - 100 mg (10 ml of suspension) twice a day. These children are often replaced with tablets because they are more convenient to take than to drink a large amount of sweet medicine.

Overdose

If the dose of liquid Nimulide is too high, an apathetic condition, nausea, drowsiness and other indisposition may appear. If you significantly exceed the amount of suspension, the risk of increased blood pressure, the development of renal failure, the onset of gastric bleeding or respiratory depression increases. In such a situation, it is important to immediately seek medical attention.

Interaction with other drugs

Nimulide is not advised to combine with diuretics, glucocorticoids, anticoagulants and many other drugs. To avoid negative interactions, before applying the suspension, it is necessary to specify its compatibility with other medications that the patient is taking.

Terms of sale

To buy a suspension in a pharmacy, you must show a prescription from a pediatrician. The price of one bottle varies within 150-230 rubles.

About storage features

Liquid Nimulid should be stored in a dry and hidden from direct sunlight place where the suspension can not get a small child.

The shelf life of the drug - 3 years. If it has expired, it is forbidden to give medicine to babies.

The drug is also praised for its pleasant taste and ease of use. Only in some patients the suspension causes allergies or unpleasant symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract.

Analogs

Another drug based on Nimulidu may be substituted. Nimesulide (Nise, Aponil, Nimesil etc.), however, most of these funds are released in a higher dosage, so they are not prescribed to children under 12 years of age.

Only drugs Nise and Nimika presented dispersible tablets of 50 mg. They dissolve in water and can be used in the treatment of children 2-12 years old.

Other liquid forms (syrup, suspension) of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can also be used instead of Nimulide:

The effect of such drugs is provided by paracetamol or ibuprofen, which are allowed in childhood and are prescribed even to infants. Nevertheless, Nimulid should still select such a replacement along with his doctor.
