Normaze for children: instructions for use
If a child has difficulty with bowel movements, laxatives may be prescribed. One such drug approved in childhood is Normaze. How does this medicine affect the child’s body when it is used and in what cases is contraindicated for children?
Release form
The drug is presented in pharmacies only one form - syrup. This is a medium thick transparent liquid, which is either without any shade or brownish-yellow. One bottle of dark glass contains 200 ml of syrup. The medicine package includes a plastic measuring cup.On which there are divisions from 5 to 30 ml.
Composition
Normase is a solution of lactulose, and if you count its active substance on pure lactulose, it turns out that in 100 ml of syrup contains 66.7 g of this ingredient. In the manufacture of the drug, citric acid and purified water are added to lactulose., and for a pleasant taste and aroma in the medicine there is a creamy flavoring.
Mechanism of action
Admission Normaze affects the composition of the flora in the colon (the drug is a prebiotic). The result of this effect will be an increase in the number of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, which not only suppresses the vital activity of Escherichia coli and other potentially dangerous microbes, but also increases the acidity of the contents of the large intestine, and also activates the peristalsis of this part of the digestive system. At the same time, the drug helps to increase the amount of fecal masses and soften them.
The outcome of such effects will be a laxative effect, but it does not directly affect smooth muscle or Normase’s intestinal mucosa.
The positive effect of medication for hepatic coma, precoma or encephalopathy is also due to the influence of lactulose on acidophilic bacteria.
Due to the growth of their number, proteolytic bacteria are suppressed, and acidification of the feces promotes the formation of ionic forms of ammonia and a decrease in pH in the intestinal lumen.
In addition, due to the growth of microorganisms that use ammonia in their metabolic processes, toxic nitrogen-containing substances in the body are reduced.
Once in the stomach, the syrup is almost unchanged and not absorbed., and in its original form enters the colon. There, the drug is broken down by bacteria and, when used at a dosage of less than 40-75 ml, is fully metabolized.
If the dose of the medicine is higher, then the excess syrup, which has not managed to split, is eliminated with feces.
Indications
Normase is most often prescribed for constipation in order to adjust the physiological rhythm of bowel movements. The drug is also used in children with dysbiosis and give with salmonellosis. In addition, syrup is used in cases where it is important to soften the stool (with hemorrhoids, injuries in the anus, and in similar situations).
This remedy is also prescribed for hepatic encephalopathy in order to prevent the precommon and coma, as well as to treat these complications.

No age restrictions for Normaz are indicated in the annotations to the syrup, but it is permissible to give such a medicine to a child of any age only after a doctor's prescription.
