Sab simplex for children: instructions for use

Content

When a large amount of gas is formed and collected in the intestine, it brings severe discomfort and can cause painful sensations.

To cope with this problem will help the drug from the group of carminatives from the well-known pharmaceutical company Pfizer under the name "Sub Simplex". It is prescribed to both adult patients, and adolescents, and young children, since this drug has proven itself to meteorism and other symptoms of dyspepsia. Its advantages include the ability to use at any age, good tolerability, a small number of contraindications and ease of use.

Release form

The only dosage form of “Sub Simplex” is a suspension, which is given to patients to drink. It is sold in a bottle made of light-protective glass, and there is a drip device on its neck. One bottle contains 30 milliliters of a slightly viscous solution. It has a white or grayish-white color, a fruity aroma and a sweet taste.

Composition

The effect of the suspension is provided by an ingredient called simethicone. Its amount per 100 ml of medicine is 6.919 grams. This substance consists of two components, represented in a proportion of 92.5: 7.5 - polymeric substance of Dimethicone 350 and silicon dioxide added to it.

The drug also contains several inactive substances needed to maintain its physical characteristics, sweet taste and pleasant smell. Among them are sodium saccharinate, raspberry and vanilla flavors, citric acid, hypromellose, sorbic acid and other compounds. If there is a need, then you can clarify the entire list of auxiliary ingredients on the packaging of “Sub Simplex”.

Operating principle

Simethicone when released into the digestive tract is not metabolized and not absorbed, but directly affects the gas bubbles that have formed during the digestion process. Such a substance reduces their surface tension, which contributes to the destruction of existing bubbles and prevents the formation of new ones. Gases, which at the same time are released or absorbed by the walls of the intestine, or due to peristaltic movements leave the intestine.

Simethicone itself is also derived from the digestive tract without any changes.

When is appointed?

Most often, “Sub Simplex” is prescribed as symptomatic help with meteorism and increased gas formation in the stomach or different parts of the intestine, for example, if a child swallows air during meals or has a functional violation of digestion.

The drug is prescribed for colic and bloating, as well as after surgical treatment to prevent excessive gas formation.

This suspension can also be administered to children who are preparing for an X-ray, endoscopic or ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs. When X-ray "Sub Simplex" helps contrast better envelop the intestinal membrane and prevents the destruction of the film formed by a contrast agent. This increases the effectiveness of the survey, eliminating the overlap of the image and the appearance of noise on the film.

Another reason to assign “Sab Simplex” to a child can be called acute poisoning, provoked by detergent.The drug acts on surfactants and can be given as a first aid if a child accidentally swallows soap or some other detergent.

How old is allowed?

The use of "Sub Simplex" in children is possible from birth. Such a suspension is harmless to a newborn baby and an infant, but you should first talk about the use of the drug in such young patients with a pediatrician to make sure that Sub Simplex is necessary and there are no possible contraindications.

It is not recommended to give the suspension to infants and preschoolers without consulting a doctor.

Contraindications

“Sub Simplex” is not assigned if the child has hypersensitivity to simethicone or to any auxiliary component of the suspension.

In addition, the drug should not be used in case of intestinal obstruction and obstructive diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as in case of suspicion of these pathologies.

If a child has diabetes, you can give him a “Sub Simplex” because there are no carbohydrates in the composition of this medication (a sweetener gives a sweet taste to the preparation).

Side effects

Treatment with Sub Simplex can provoke an allergic reaction. If symptoms of allergy are detected after one or several doses of the suspension, the medication should be discontinued and, if the adverse reaction is severe, consult a doctor to prescribe symptomatic treatment. Other adverse reactions to the drug do not occur.

How to apply?

According to the instructions, it is recommended to give “Sub Simplex” to children during meals or immediately after feeding, but the newborn can be offered the drug before feedings. For dispensing the medication used dropper, which is equipped with a bottle. In one milliliter of suspension contains 25 drops.

Before each use, the bottle needs to be shaken, and in order for the medicine to start entering the dropper, the bottle is turned over and tapped on its bottom.

The drug can be given from the spoon undiluted or diluted in any liquid. For breastfed infants, it is permissible to dilute the product with mother's milk. If the infant baby eats from the bottle, then “Sub Simplex” is added to the mixture during each feeding. If necessary, the medication is additionally taken before bedtime.

Single doses of the drug and the duration of use depend on the indications for the use of the suspension. If “Sub Simplex” is discharged as a symptomatic remedy for severe gas formation and bloating, the medicine is given until complaints disappear, and the dosage is determined by age:

  • for infants of the first year of life, the medicine is given 15 drops each, which corresponds to 0.6 ml of the suspension;
  • for a child older than six years of age, a single dose will also be 0.6 ml of the drug, that is, 15 drops;
  • children from six to 15 years old "Sab Simplex" should take 20-30 drops in each meal (from 0.8 to 1.2 ml of the drug);
  • if a child is older than 15 years, he is prescribed an adult dosage of the suspension - 30–45 drops at intervals of four to six hours (from 1.2 to 1.8 ml per reception).

If the child has to undergo a gastrointestinal examination, the suspension is dosed out with a teaspoon, for which the pipette is removed from the vial. The time of administration and dosage of “Sub Simplex” are determined taking into account the planned procedure:

  • before X-ray examination, the drug is given on the evening before the procedure in the amount of three to six teaspoons;
  • if the child is recorded on an ultrasound, then 3 teaspoons of the suspension are given the day before the manipulation in the evening, and then the same amount of medicine must be drunk on the day of the study three hours before it;
  • with endoscopy, “Sub Simplex” is given immediately before the procedure in the amount of 2.5-5 ml (half a teaspoon or a full spoon).

If the child has swallowed detergent, the doctor should prescribe the dosage of the suspension, depending on the severity of the poisoning. The smallest amount of “Sub Simplex” in this situation will be 5 ml.If the child’s condition worsens or he feels better, but then the symptoms recur, you should immediately call a doctor.

Overdose

Since “Sub Simplex” acts only on the contents of the stomach and intestines, but does not affect the walls of the gastrointestinal tract and does not penetrate through them into the bloodstream, the excess dose of this suspension does not affect the condition of the child. There is no information about cases of overdose with this medicine.

Interaction with other drugs

The manufacturer does not provide information on the incompatibility of Sub Simplex with any other drugs. This means that the medication can be administered together with other drugs that are given for digestive disorders, including other carminatives that do not contain simethicone.

Reviews

On the use of "Sub Simplex" with colic, bloating and dyspepsia speak mostly positively. Parents and pediatricians confirm that the drops act fairly quickly, are pleasant to the taste and are easily swallowed by the kids along with their usual diet or just from a spoon. Packaging of the drug is called convenient and attractive, and the drug consumption is economical.

By cons of the suspension, many parents attribute its high cost, since there are analogues cheaper. Also, some mothers do not like a large list of auxiliary chemical components, in particular, the presence of sweetener and flavors in the preparation. In the negative reviews complain that "Sub Simplex" did not help get rid of colic and flatulence, or the healing effect was temporary for a particular baby.

Analogs

If “Sub Simplex” was not in the pharmacy, another drug based on simethicone may be a substitute for this drug.

  • «Espumizan». This is the most popular analogue of Sab Simplex, manufactured by Berlin Hemi in several forms. Drops "Espumizan Baby" contain an increased dosage of the active ingredient (100 mg in 1 ml) and are in demand in newborns and infants. The “Espumizan L” and “Espumizan 40” products contain 40 mg of simethicone per ml, but the first drug is drops, and the second is produced in a large bottle, to which a measuring spoon of 5 ml is applied. Children older than six years prescribed "Espumizan" in capsules with a dosage of 40 mg.
  • «Bobotik». Such a product of the Polish company Medana Pharma contains simethicone in a dosage of 66.66 mg in 1 ml. It is often chosen as an analogue of the “Sub Simplex” and “Espumizana”, because it is cheaper. The drug is represented by drops of white color with a fruity odor. Children can give it from bloating and colic from the 28th day of life.
  • Antiflat Lannaher. This medicine is produced in Austria in two forms. One of them is a banana suspension containing 41.2 mg simethicone in each milliliter. The second form - sweet chewable tablets with a dosage of 42 mg. Liquid "Antiflat" can be used from birth, and tablets are recommended for patients older than six years.

      In addition, the doctor may prescribe a child and another carminative, for example, "Plantex". Such a drug company Lek is available in portion bags containing light brown granules with the scent of fennel.The main ingredient of these granules is a dry extract of the fruits of fennel, supplemented with essential oil of fennel, as well as lactose, acacia gum and dextrose.

      Medicinal solution prepared from granules can be given to children from the second week of life with flatulence, colic and other problems with digestion. Parents praise such an analogue of “Sub Simplex” for its convenient dosage form, pleasant taste, natural composition and absence of side reactions. But, since the cost of "Plantex" high, it is often replaced with dill water.

      This natural remedy relaxes the muscles of the intestines, which facilitates the excretion of gases and eliminates colic in babies. In addition, dill water has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and sedative effects. You can cook it at home from fennel or dill, taking the seeds of such plants and purified water. Freshly prepared water is given to babies a teaspoon 3-6 times a day.
