And therefore all parents should know the sources of this element for children in food, and also understand when such sources may not be enough and the child must be given iron-containing vitamins.

Better absorption of iron contributes to a sufficient intake of ascorbic acid, vitamin E and copper. It is also important to know that it is absorbed much better from animal products than from plant foods.
In pharmaceutical preparations
Iron preparations, in which this element is the main component, should be used in children only when indicated and after a doctor's prescription. They contain an element in a fairly high dose, so uncontrolled use can cause harm to the child. In addition, the dosage of such funds should be selected individually, taking into account possible contraindications.
Independently, a mother can only give a child a multivitamin, in which iron is only one of the substances that supplement vitamin compounds. The dosage of an element in such complexes, as a rule, is low, but sufficient to prevent shortages in the event of its deficiency in food.
Who needs such vitamins
Vitamin supplements with a high content of this element are recommended for children who do not consume meat and its other sources. Also, these drugs should be taken:
- During the period of recovery after a disease or surgical treatment.
- With intolerance to cow's milk.
- In diseases of the digestive tract, impairing the absorption of nutrients.
- During the period of active growth, when iron is intensively consumed.
- With a restrictive diet.
- With significant physical exertion.
