Antipyretic drugs are among the most common and necessary drugs in the first aid kit of families with young children. Among them, children's Panadol, which is also called Panadol Baby, is in great demand. One form of this medication is rectal suppositories. When they are prescribed to children, in what dosage is it used and which analogs are they replaced with?

Candles Panadol Baby have a conical shape, uniform structure and almost white color. Normally, such suppositories are free of any impurities or physical defects.

The active ingredient of Panadol pediatric suppositories is paracetamol. Its quantity in one candle is 125 mg or 250 mg.

In addition to this component, there is still some solid fat. There are no other ingredients and chemical additives in this Panadol form.

Panadol for children is a non-steroidal drug that has a pronounced analgesic and antipyretic effect. Such effects from the use of suppositories are associated with the ability of paracetamol affect cyclooxygenase.

As a result of the inhibition of such an enzyme in the central nervous system, the drug acts on the centers that regulate body temperature and pain perception. At the same time, Panadol does not act on the water-salt metabolism and mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract.

Absorption of the active ingredient of the drug is quite fast and almost complete. The beginning of the action of the candles mark after 1.5-2 hoursand the duration of the antipyretic effect of such a Panadol is up to 6 hours.

Panadol in candlelight is not appointed until 6 months of age. If an antipyretic drug is required for babies who are not yet half a year, use the suspension, since it is allowed from 3 months, or choose an analog with a lower content of paracetamol.

Since suppositories are available in two dosages, each of them has their age limits, as well as patient weight limits:

• suppositories containing 125 mg are prescribed at the age of 6-30 months for children weighing 8-12.5 kg;
• candles with 250 mg of paracetamol are used in children 3-6 years old, whose weight is 13-20 kg.

For a child over six years old or with a small patient weighing more than 20 kg, a higher single dose is required, therefore, the use of suppositories for such children is impractical. They are given either a suspension (Children's Panadol) or a tablet form (Panadol).

The drug is not prescribed to children:

• with hypersensitivity to paracetamol;
• with blood disorders;
• with severe disorders of the kidneys;
• with serious liver pathologies;

• with lack of glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase;
• with rectal bleeding;
• with inflammation of the rectum.

In very rare cases, Panadol in candlelight provokes:

• skin rashes;
• thrombocytopenia;
• nausea;
• urticaria;
• disruption of the liver;
• angioedema;
• anemia;
• itchy skin;
• bronchospasm;
• decrease in the number of leukocytes.

If the child began to show these or other adverse symptoms, you must immediately abandon the use of candles and show the baby to the doctor.

After washing your hands and removing the plastic shell from the suppository, you need to put the child and gently insert the medicine into the anus, pushing the candle with your index finger.

• Paracetamol. These candles are available in dosages of 50, 100, 250 and 500 mg, which allows you to choose the right medicine for a child of any age. In the smallest dose, the medication is prescribed from 1 month.

In addition, instead of Panadol and other drugs containing paracetamol, the doctor may write suppositories with analgesic and antipyretic effects based on ibuprofen, for example, Nurofen or Ibuprofen.

Such drugs contain ibuprofen at a dosage of 60 mg in one candle. These drugs are used in children weighing more than 6 kg at the age of 3 months and older.
